About Community Health Coalition
Since 1989, North Carolina's Community Health Coalition (CHC) has connected passionate leaders and doers in the fields of medicine, education, mental health, faith organizations, law, finance, the military, and social advocacy to achieve one united goal; health equity for EVERYONE, beyond today's racial and socioeconomic barriers.
Serving Durham County and the surrounding areas, CHC strives to create a society in which all people live healthy, active, and purpose-driven lives.
Our main areas of focus are:
-
Awareness of diseases and issues like diabetes, hypertension, cancer, insurance issues, and organ and tissue donation
-
Decreasing obesity among minorities within our community
-
Educating the community on the dangers of tobacco and general substance abuse
-
Highlighting and improving mental health services.
We believe it is the health system's responsibility to educate and treat the entire community - including the disadvantaged and under-served populations.

Charles Clark
CHC Executive Director/Resource Development Officer

Charles is a fundraising professional with over a decade of experience helping educational institutions and non-profit organizations achieve revenue, operations, and program initiatives.
My motto is to to be the salt of the earth while leaving imprints of change and impact.
His fundraising career began at North Carolina Central University School of Law, where his passion for philanthropy, strategic planning, and operational sustainability was ignited. Throughout his career, he has managed the day-to-day operations of gifts and donor relationships, led annual fundraising appeal programs, capital campaigns, strategic planning for future sustainability, and cultivated relationships with key external partners and stakeholders.
His passion is to work for and with organizations that stand out in uniqueness, service, community, and love.
Charles resides in Raleigh, NC, with his wife, Adriane, and their three-year-old son Greyson. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations from Saint Augustine’s University. Furthermore, Charles is pursuing his master’s degree and is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) candidate. He enjoys singing, taking trips with his family, and making people laugh and smile.
Dr. Elaine Hart-Brothers, MD, MPH
CHC Co-Founder, Past Executive Director

Dr. Hart-Brothers received her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) at Tufts University School of Medicine and a Master's in Public Health (M.P.H.) at Harvard University School of Public Health. She worked in General Internal Medicine and Community & Family Medicine at Duke Primary Care.

Seeing patients was the most rewarding part of her job, but she could only see one patient at a time. In 1989, Dr. Hart-Brothers and the late Mr. John Mickle founded Community Health Coalition to serve many more lives by educating the public about health and addressing the needs of NC communities.
My interest in community medicine is simple … the more people I reach, the more lives I help save. If I convince you to take an active role in your own health, I've fulfilled my mission.
She believes this kind of outreach is part of our health system's responsibility to educate and treat the entire community—including the disadvantaged and under-served populations, but in the end it all comes down to the one-to-one practice of medicine.

In 2020, Dr. Hart-Brothers retired from CHC after 31 years of service.
