Moreene Road Community Housing Project Saturday Health Clinic was held. The Community Health Coalition, medical doctors and health professionals provided food, consultation and administered blood pressure, glucose and weight checks to residents from 9am to 2pm. Representing the Coalition were Terrance McGill, MD, UNC medical students and Laurie Johnson, RN
January 17th
CHC emailed and mailed via postal service approximately 300 Health Tips on Being Physically Active to churches, organizations, doctors and the media for distribution to congregation, members, patients and subscribers, respectively. The Health Tip was written by Carmelita Spicer in collaboration with George Brothers, Jr., MD, a Rheumatologist at Chapel Hill Internal Medicine. It was edited & graphically designed by Carmelita Spicer, MEd. Marion Miles, RN from the Coalition manages the Healthy Sunday program. Churches are encouraged to discuss health topics and utilize the health tip on the 4th Sunday.

Blood Pressure Committee (B-PEP) met at 5:30pm at the Coalition to finalize the second 12 week blood pressure education program for HBP participants and review/understand current State of NC policy on insurance coverage for BP machines & cuffs. Members: Carmelita Spicer, MEd & Program Director; Bertha Williams, MSN & Program Instructor; James Amos, Communication Specialist from Duke; Pamela Bivens, MS/Contractor; and Elaine Hart-Brothers, MD and Cedric Bright, MD, advisors.
January 19th
The Community Health Coalition participated in a health fair at Durham Carrington Middle School from 9:30am to1pm. Marion Miles, RN; Lois Parker; Contractor from the Coalition provided apples, tooth brushes and toothpaste along with reading materials on childhood obesity and diabetes to approximately 800 youth. Marion Miles also spoke to the youth about proper nutrition, obesity concerns, diabetes and asthma.
